Resting Energy Expenditure - (Resting
Metabolism)
We all know someone whose metabolism allows them
to eat whatever they want and never gain an ounce. Others may have a very
low metabolic rate. Things such as age, gender and genetics that determine
metabolism cannot be changed. We can however change our activity level and lean mass. 'Muscle' is
metabolically active. The more of it you have, the higher your
metabolism. Alternately, extreme diets and excessive exercise tear down
lean mass, which will lower your metabolism. One
simple fact; food is energy. You use it or store it! At
the end of the day, calories in vs. calories out determine your weight.
